A treasure trove of personal stories.
Where can I find it?

Story Well

Interactive "Oral History" installation.

The Westergasfabriek Culture Park plays a role in the life of many people. Tourists, general public, artists, organisers, local inhabitants, walkers, partygoers, conference visitors and nature lovers... there's something for everyone.

As soon as you sit down on the Story Well park bench, you can listen to their personal stories. Stories about the first case, a spontaneous dance, Jan the Cat Man, the little dog Maxi and the moorhens, a fire extinguisher to rabbits, the first opera in the Gasometer, Naked Boys...

The Story Well keeps playing new stories. And the Story Well keeps collecting them. Your story too! Anyone can leave personal memories behind. Call the Story Well and recite your own story.

Where can I find it?

How does it work?

There are three Story Wells on benches in the Culture Park. As soon as you sit down on the bench, you hear stories by other visitors.

With the buttons on the armrest, you can change the volume, fast forward and listen to stories in English.

Do you have your own special story to tell?
  • Call 020 4867843, or the phone number stated on the pillar beside the Story Well.
  • Speak your story as if you're leaving a message on an answering machine.
  • An editor will listen to your story. If it is audible and complete enough, your story will be added to the Story Well website.
Vary you can always listen to all the stories; you can leave through the stories and search by title or the (pink) themes. Different stories keep bubbling up from the Story Wells in the park.
